Welcome to AboutMalibu.com

For any Los Angeles resident that has grown weary of the clogged freeways, any break from this monotonous lifestyle is hard to find. Sure, some of you may drive a few hours north to Santa Barbara or take a weekend camping trip up to Sequoia. You may even make the five hour drive up to Mammoth Mountain to go skiing or fishing. But what if you want something closer? A relaxing getaway minus the hours spent on the road. What if you don’t have the time to make such a long trip? Where can you go in your own backyard to a place that offers serenity, beauty and a little excitement? The answer is Malibu.

Malibu is the one place in Los Angeles where one can go and escape the claustrophobic feeling that most Los Angeles residents have grown accustomed to. On any give day you can travel along Malibu's coast and leave the worries behind. I know that many people have preconceived notions of Malibu. They probably think that Malibu is just an overpriced town for the ultra-wealthy to spend their day’s hob-knobbing with other entertainment industry folk while sipping on a $40 glass of Pinot Noir. Well it may be time to put away those stereotypes, hop in the car and take a ride up the Pacific Coast Highway and enjoy all that “The Bu” has to offer. There's many reasons why people move to Malibu! Some of the most expensive homes in LA County are located in Malibu! Make sure to visit our Real Estate Section to see homes currently on the market!

Whether you like shopping or surfing, seafood or steak, beaches or canyons – Malibu has something for everyone. Shopping is one of the highlights in Malibu with unique and eclectic shopping experiences; there are tons of shops with the trendiest styles that can’t be found anywhere else. If you’d rather spend your day at the beach, you can walk miles of sand or take a gander at the hundred of surfers paddling out to catch their next big wave. There are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants overlooking the ocean, one of the more popular of which is Moonshadows. Many of the best restaurants are located towards the southern end of Malibu.

Head north and you will find amazing beaches such as Zuma beach and Point Mugu. Also to the north is a local eatery known Neptune’s Net, which is a great place to stop and have some of the best fish and chips around. Neptune’s Net is more of a greasy spoon type establishment and you’ll notice that the parking lot is chock full of biker-dudes and surfer types. It is great place to take in some of the local flavor and maybe even catch a glimpse of a celebrity in the flesh. After you’ve had your fill of seafood, maybe you can rent some kayaks and hit the open water. Zuma Jay’s and a few other local rental shops offer kayaks by the hour or at a day rate. The swells just past the breaking waves are a great place to hone your kayaking skills and take in a multitude of sea life including dolphins, seals and the occasional whale.

We would like to welcome you to AboutMalibu! If you live or work in Malibu, we hope you make our site your #1 area resource. And if you're visiting or just in need of a well deserved break – call your friends or pack up your family and take the short ride to Malibu. You’ll be glad you did!
