You can enjoy one of the many beaches available if you are visiting or live in the Los Angeles area. There are more than twenty beaches for you to catch a tan or do some people watching. It really does not matter what you prefer, because Los Angeles has a beach for you.
Best Surfing Beaches
Zuma Beach is a local favorite just north of Malibu. It is known for its clean water and great waves. It is a south-facing beach that is busiest on the weekends. There are no entrance fees. Early arrivals can get free parking.
Manhattan Beach is the birthplace of volleyball and was the hangout for the Beach Boys in their early years. It is west- facing and brings in a wide variety of visitors. There are no entrance fees. Bring plenty of quarters for your parking.
Best People Watching Beach
Venice Beach is the most interesting of all of the areas beaches. It attracts all types of characters reflecting the Hollywood movies nearby. You will see people in all forms on this beach. This is the beach that many body builders’ workout including Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the outdoor weight room. There are no entrance fees.
Best Walking Beach
Manhattan Beach has a paved walking path that includes Santa Monica Bay sites that are stunning. It also has a very nice, long bike path for you to experience. The views are spectacular all over this beach. There are no entrance fees, but you will need money for the meter to park.
Best Beach Experience
Paradise Cove is a private, small beach that gives you the charm of an old-fashioned beach experience. It is surrounded by bluffs and looks out to the many boats that are moored close by. There is an excellent restaurant on the premises. There are fees per person and parking also, unless validated by restaurant.
Best Bonfire Beach
Dockweiler Beach is the only beach in the Los Angeles area that you can have a bonfire. It is three miles of the shoreline that is rarely crowded. It also has the only recreational vehicle (RV) park available on the area beaches. It is in the center of the city, but houses or other buildings do not surround it. There are entry fees charged and free or paid parking is available.
Best Romantic Beach
El Matador Beach is a small-secluded beach just north of Malibu. It is one of the best places to watch the sunset with your partner. It is a south-facing beach that is busiest in the summer, but in the off-season, it permits many chances for romantic experiences. There are no entry fees, but it has limited parking.
Best Kids Beach
Redondo Beach has plenty of sand to play on and a pier packed full of amusements. There also is a long path that is paved for skating or biking. It is a west-facing urban beach with great views of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It is the busiest on weekends in the summer. There are no entry fees and they have paid parking available.
